Bergen in Civitates orbis terrarum
The Bergen prospect after Hieronymus Scholeus appeared in volume four of Georg Braun and Frans Hogenberg’s Civitates orbis terrarum in 1588. Later editions followed, including Janssonius’ revised engraving in 1657. Those dates describe the history of the image; the exact edition reproduced here has not been established. A prospect presents the city from an elevated, oblique viewpoint.
The print was clear and beautifully produced. Ordering was quick, and everything was as expected.
