Hamar map print: a city plan from 1902
The original map was drawn for Amund Helland’s Norges Land og Folk, volume IV: Hedemarkens Amt. The National Library of Norway records Den private Opmaaling as both cartographer and publisher, with publication in Kristiania in 1902. Helland’s name belongs to the work for which the map was prepared; the mapmaking credit belongs to Den private Opmaaling.
Look closely at the Hamar map print and you can follow the street grid, railway lines and waterfront. Individual buildings are picked out in colour, while Norwegian labels and the original title preserve the character of the source. The historical map carries a scale of 1:10,000; that scale changes when the image is reproduced at different print sizes.
A connection to Norwegian roots
For someone whose family came from Hamar or the surrounding Hedmark area, this print offers a place to begin a conversation about home. Hang it near family photographs, beside a bookcase or in a study where the small details invite a closer look. Its cream tones also work well with natural wood and a simple frame.
