Winter street life in historic Copenhagen
Kongens Nytorv was one of Copenhagen’s busiest and most fashionable public spaces. Fischer filled the snow-covered square with pedestrians, carriages and urban traffic, while the surrounding façades create a recognisable architectural setting.
The painting was completed at a time when Copenhagen was changing rapidly. New forms of transport shared the streets with horse-drawn vehicles, and the city’s public spaces became places where different parts of urban society met. Fischer’s street scenes recorded these changes through everyday movement, weather and clothing.
Fischer became closely associated with Copenhagen’s streets. His early works often focused on grey weather and winter scenes, and he later became known as a painter of the city and its inhabitants.
“His greatest source of inspiration was life in Copenhagen.”
The artwork is reproduced on heavyweight 200 gsm matte paper with a thickness of approximately 0.26 mm. The non-reflective surface preserves the painting’s winter light, architectural details and busy street scene.
Each poster is made when ordered and produced locally where possible. The art print is supplied without a frame, allowing you to select a frame that fits your room and preferred style.
We only print when you order, using FSC-certified or equivalent matte paper (200 gsm, 0.26 mm) for a refined, non-reflective finish.
Local production across the USA, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Brazil helps reduce shipping distance and emissions.
