Norwegian nature seen through a Romantic eye
Fearnley was one of the central Norwegian landscape painters of the nineteenth century. His work combines close observation of nature with carefully arranged light, depth and scale. In this landscape, the bright movement of the water draws the eye through the dark foreground toward the mountain and changing sky.
