A Norwegian artist in the Swiss Alps
Thomas Fearnley was among the leading Norwegian landscape painters of the Romantic period. During his travels through Europe, he found inspiration in the dramatic scenery of Switzerland. In this intimate study from around 1835, the changing morning light becomes the central subject.
The original belongs to The Fitzwilliam Museum, which describes it as “oil on paper, laid on canvas.”
